Medicare FAQs

Each year, from October 15 to December 7, you can:

• Switch between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage plans
• Change to a different Medicare Advantage plan
• Add, drop, or adjust your prescription drug coverage.

Changes take effect on January 1 of the following year.

• Original Medicare (Parts A & B) offers flexibility: visit any provider that accepts Medicare, no referrals required.

• Medicare Advantage (Part C) bundles A & B, often includes extras like drug coverage, dental, vision, and fitness—but may limit you to provider networks or require referrals.

• Part D is optional but vital if you need prescription coverage.
• You can add it if you have Original Medicare or a Medicare Advantage plan without drug benefits.
